Report of the Task Force on Records Management
Group: Ohio Judicial System
Chief Justice Thomas J. Moyer established the Supreme Court Task Force on Records Management in response to concerns raised by courts and clerks across the state about the unmanageable volume of records held by the courts and potential liability of clerks for maintaining those records. The Chief Justice charged the Task Force on Records Management to survey records retention and maintenance practices across the state and recommend a set of minimum standards for collection, retention, and destruction of court records. The Chief Justice further charged the Task Force to develop rules that would accommodate both paper and electronic methods of submission and maintenance.
