Description

Based on the findings and conclusions derived from the analysis of the data generated from this survey, the following four recommendations were developed to guide future activities involving the Community Oriented Policing (COP) approach in the State College Police Department (SCPD). #1. The Department should continue to adhere to a COP philosophy based on the citizens' responses. #2. The SCPD should tailor its crime fighting and prevention programs to the respondents' belief that underage drinking, traffic during sporting events, and vandalism pose the greatest threat to their quality of life. #3. The SCPD should create more opportunities for citizens to meet and discuss their concerns about neighborhood and community issues. #4. This type of research study should be repeated in the near future, perhaps annually to determine if attitudes about the SCPD change over time.
