Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws
Group: Iowa Division of Criminal & Juvenile Justice Planning
The State of Iowa has been working for several years to improve programming in order to combat the underage drinking problem in Iowa and meet its obligation to Iowa's youth. As part of this endeavor the CJJP has received a block grant from the Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws Program to enhance the creation of and support for programs which target underage drinking. To further build capacity and address this problem CJJP has strived to collaborate with other state agencies and local planning and program initiatives with an attempt to shift focus away from youth problems and categorical youth programs to a more holistic approach designed to support all youth and foster healthy and positive youth development. This youth development approach, while not ignoring youth problems, is based on the principle that many youth problems are interrelated and can be best addressed through comprehensive and proactive strategies that engage youth in positive ways.
