Description
In FY2007, Willacy County received a Discretionary Grant from the Commission to establish a public defender office. The County signed a contract with Texas RioGrande Legal Aid, a legal nonprofit organization, to provide representation to those identified as eligible for court appointment through a screening process in the jail. This report analyzed the impact of the program by looking to see if the program met the objectives laid out by the County and if it met the requirements of the Fair Defense Act and the Grant Program Requirements.
