Description

Following the lead of South Dakota and Texas, among other states, a bi-partisan legislative sub-committee has begun working on criminal justice reform in New Mexico. This report summarizes information that may be useful to the sub-committee, including: 1) data points regarding New Mexico's inmate population and how it compares to national data; 2) information regarding admissions to prison and length of stay; 3) factors that drive the inmate population in New Mexico; and 4) justice system reforms enacted in other states
