Life Without Parole: Describing the Effects of "Lifer Bubble"

The purpose of this study was to examine the prison population as of December 31, 2011 for offenders serving sentences of life without parole (LWOP) and to identify the potential needs of this population as they age as well as to assess the ramification of this aging population for the Washington State Department of Correction (DOC). Emphasis was placed on identification of the general demographics of the population and their individual issues as well as identifying conditions which could affect mortality such as mental health conditions and chronic medical conditions and disease.
