A Pilot Study on the Mental Health of Adolescents and Youth at the Hawaii Youth Correctional Facility

With the support of the Office of Youth Services, State of Hawaii, the following is a report on the mental health status of adolescents at the Hawaii Youth Correctional Facility (HYCF). A total of 269 adolescent records were reviewed retrospectively for the time period of July 1, 1999 to June 31, 2000. The study was conducted by Dr. S. Peter Kim (Principal Investigator, Psychiatrist, Professor) and Dr. Earl S. Hishinuma (Co-Principal Investigator, Vice Chair-Research), Department of Psychiatry, University of Hawaii at Manoa, and their colleagues.
